Who Pays For the Wedding?

We are about to start organising our wedding which we hope will take place next year. We have been given estimates on how much a modern wedding can cost, which range from £12,000 to £16,000. Is this a true reflection of the costs and who normally pays for what?

In a traditional western marriage, the cost of the wedding was generally bourne by the brides parents. More recently the costs have been shared between the brides parents and the grooms. Now, as more young people are financially independent of their parents, it is more common for the bride and groom to shoulder the majority of the financial burdon.
