How do I tell my friends who have families, that their children are not invited to my wedding?
This is a tricky issue.
First of all, you don't want to upset friends and family, who might think twice about accepting your invitation if their children are not included. Then, can you invite the children of close family and not the children of close friends?It should be generally assumed that if an invitation does not say 'Jack and Jill Smith and family' or 'Jack and Jill Smith and Tom, Dick and Harriett' then children are not invited.
